Lang Assignment 2

I just finished my first digital story and I could use this format for other classes such as history on a person or event. I enjoyed putting the whole project together and deciding what order I would put the pictures. I found adjusting the pictures timing along with my recording to be the most challenging. I could see myself doing this again for personal use because it is very easy and quick to do.

Citing Sources

I liked Son of Citation Machine more than EasyBib because there was more information already filled out then in EasyBib. It was harder to find and fill out information on EasyBib and Citation Machine was more organized and easier to fill out.

Timeline

Theodore Roosevelt Articles

1. In all three sources it talks about Roosevelt’s son Kermit and their father- son expedition across the River of Doubt. It talks about all the dangers they faced on the journey too. Also in all three articles it said Theodore suffered from depression and that he went down to visit his son Kermit to escape political problems.

2. In the first two articles it said that both Theodore and Kermit made the expedition but in the last article it says that Kermit ended up committing suicide. Also in the first two articles it talks about Theodore’s decision to leave the Republican Party and run for a third party caused many problems for him.

3. In the first article it talks about Theodore Roosevelt carried a lethal dose of morphine with him for many years and no other article said the same fact.  It also said that Theodore thought about taking his own life. It did not say this in any other article. I think it is true that he could have thought about taking his own life because of all the diseases and such he encountered on his journey. I could verify that validity by going on several more websites to confirm these facts.

Site Evaluations

http://www.prodeathpentaly.com/ , http://usliberals.about.com/od/deathpenalty/i/DeathPenalty.htm ,and http://www.amnesty.org/en/death-penalty were a reliable sites. The first and third website however were biased but it was stated in their article what they believed and their opinion and gave information to back up their opininons. The second website was not biased, it talked about both the pros and conc of the death pentaly. All these websites gave information on the author and proper credentials.
The last website the, http://kkk.org/ however was not as reliable because for one the home page only had pictures and no words on it so I went to a different part of the website and that was more helpful but still not reliable. The author was not stated and it was very biased. The first three websites were reliable but not the fourth.

Online Safety

In this article it talks about a young teenage girl that was harassed on MySpace by a boy she befriended online who ended up causing her to commit suicide. He ended up telling her that the world would be better without her and they soon found out that the boy was actually a 46 year old mother of a former friend of the victim, Megan. Now her mother goes around talking about the dangers of cyberbullying and always wears a black and white polka dot scarf in memory of her daughter. I thought this was crazy when I first read it because it was a mother that was bullying this little girl and caused her to commit suicide. This could have been prevented if Megan decided not to talk to someone she never met.

Google

Here is what is going to happen when Google makes its' new policy change on March 1st, 2012. Google is going to start collecting data about their users based on their activities on sites such as YouTube and Gmail. Google will start reading your emails and throwing it into it's big pile of data about you. Another difference is you will see more Ad's that Google thinks you might be interested in based on your activity on the Web.

It will know your whole day just by what you do on your phone and computer. It will know personal matters from your emails also.

I agree with this article that Google is going to know more about us then our husband/wife. Google is going to be able to know where you are at all time if you have an Android phone and it will know when you will be running late and what appointments you have that day. It will remember everything you searched for on the Web and give you Ads and better searches to try and make your experience easier and better.

The Chrissy vs. Ke$ha case involved the songs "My Slushy" by Chrissy and "Tik Tok" by Ke$ha. Feed Readers

I have been working with both Google Reader and Bloglines and I have learned personally that Google Reader is easier to work with. They both show your subscriptions in categories but Reader gives you more about the article before you click it which helps know if you’ll be interested in reading it. Another reason I prefer Reader is because Reader gives you pictures for the articles before you click it and Bloglines does not. Also when I used Google Reader it gave me many different sites and topics I could follow, many more then Bloglines did.

Internet Safety

Internet safety is being safe online by protecting your information. One of the important things about internet safety is that not everyone is who they say they are, people have the ability to lie to you without you even realizing it. Instead of a talking to a 16 year old boy, you could be talking to a 55 year old man that is trying to get you to meet him. The second important thing about internet safety is to never give out your personal information because it's easy for people to track other people down with little information and some people want to hurt others. Then finally you should never say something online that you wouldn't say in person. Many people are bullied everyday online and many people take their lives because of it. Two things I can improve on is to not accept anyone's friend request on facebook until I'm positive I know them and the other is to be careful what I say over texting because some people could take it the wrong way when I didn't mean for it to be mean.
